ECAC update: Harvard Defeats Brown Bears 5-2 on Opening Day, face Princeton
ECAC Day 1 Update from The Yale Tennis Center
Harvard Defeats Brown Bears 5-2 on Opening Day
The Crimson Netters put in a solid opening performance to best Brown 5-2 at the ECAC tournament. The win earns Harvard a spot in the semifinals today against Princeton, upset winner over #3 seed Yale yesterday, at 12:30pm at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center in New Haven.
Harvard won the doubles point by winning at all three positions in convincing fashion. The top doubles pairing of Omodele-Lucien and Schultz dropped the ITA Regional Finalists 8-1. Nguyen and Felton captured the second slot 8-3 while Tchan and Chijoff-Evans racked up an 8-4 victory at the third position.
The singles quickly went Harvard's way. Felton's opponent at #3 retired after only a few games, followed by Hayes' win at #6, Nguyen's straight set win at #5 and Chijoff-Evans' 6-2, 6-3 win at #1. With Harvard leading 5-0, the Bears showed us their claws. Freshman Mike Hill from Brown downed Josh Tchan at #4 while Omodele-Lucien fell to Bear Kendrick Au at #2, each in straight sets.
The Crimson is looking forward to a tussle with the Tigers this afternoon. Stay tuned…
