#23 Harvard Crimson (23-2) – NCAA Update
The Harvard Crimson defeated the Virginia Hokies yesterday to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Crimson will face the #12 Florida Gators in Gainesville today at 2pm in the second round. The winner will advance to the sweet 16 in Athens, Georgia. This is the first time since 2003 that the Crimson have advanced past the first round of the tournament. In 2003, the team of Dave Lingman, Jon Chu, Cliff Nguyen, Mark Riddell, Martin Wetzel, Chris Chiou and George Turner – forgive me if I left a player out…) went to the Sweet 16 and lost 4-3 to #1 Illinois.
The 2012 Crimson got wins yesterday in four singles matches after dropping the doubles. #4 Shaun Chaudhuri, #5 Alex Steinroeder and #6 Andy Nguyen put Harvard on the brink with two matches still on court. Denis Nguyen once again won the deciding match in the third set when his opponent retired from leg cramps. Jon Pearlman's match at #1 was stopped in the third set.
